When you run your own business, whether you realize it or not you’ve got people looking up to you – team, clients, colleagues and so on. Much of your forward motion depends on your ability to gain their buy-in … your ability to inspire.
Well, I don’t know about you, but some days I wake up and feel just a bit overwhelmed – whether its business or personal, or both. It can be very difficult to be the face of the company when you are feeling less than inspired yourself. In fact, having just started this weekly blog it can be challenging to find a topic to “inspire” you with.
So do you give up and go back to bed. Never. Fortunately I just don’t have that gene. I believe you need to create your own inspiration — you need to create a gym for your genius. Here are a few of the stations in my gym:
Affirmations – you’ve heard me talk about them before. I believe affirmations are the way you silence that negative voice in you that says “oh no you can’t”. It takes time and practice, but you can develop this muscle group.
Meditation and Prayer – I once heard meditate 15 minutes a day and if you are really busy mediate for a whole lot more. Quiet time is when I hear my inner voice – the real source of my inspiration.
The Library – I’m committed to being a student for life, so I’m constantly reading and watching videos. This is a great source of inspiration for me. Tuesday I watched three TEDtalks videos while I got ready for work. Seriously, it was way better than a venti coffee with a double shot of espresso!
Your Workspace – okay, here’s the shameless self-promotion. Find a place to work that inspires you. It may mean redecorating your office (home or otherwise). Or, it may mean getting outside of your home office (and your head). Coworking is a great option.
Of course, we recommend C3Workplace which isn’t just about affordable office space – really it’s about plugging into a community of like-minded POSITIVE people. The energy simply rocks and it’s contagious.
If you are feeling less than inspired, I hope you’ll create your own Gym for Your Genius. Feel free to contact me for a free day pass to our coworking facilities in Montclair & Sparta.
Stay tuned ….
