“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” Steve Jobs
Thank you for helping me to find what I love. Last week as I took the podium to kick off our 4th Annual Small Business Week Celebration in front of 175 business owners, professionals and colleagues I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, I was exactly where I was supposed to be. The event was months in the making, supported by an army of staff, sponsors, speakers and collaborators. We all had the same goal:
- Support Small Business Growth – it is the backbone of our country and our economy
- Be a Force for Good – it simply cannot be just about money
- Teach What We Know – it is our responsibility to help the next person or business along
- To Model Collaboration – a powerful way to grow your business
And, we hit it out of the park!
For me, it’s about legacy. Money is nice and it does make life easier, but it’s not what gets me up every day. I need to know that what I do matters. I need to believe that I am impacting lives. Being values-driven affects everything we do at C3Workplace, from the more obvious customer relations and company culture, all the way down to processes and operations. Because everything I do, down to the smallest detail, is helping me to leave a legacy that is a force for good. That’s what gets me up every day. That’s my WHY!
This, my friends, is what we are all in search of, isn’t it? We need to dig deep and find what it is that drives and inspires us. So my question is – what is your inspiration? What will you leave behind? Will it be more than simply dollars spent and dollars earned? We all need a vision, we all need a plan, and we all need goals that will take what we’re passionate about and turn it into a legacy.
We don’t naturally gravitate towards change or growth, it’s something that takes hard work, but it can be achieved by taking one small, but significant step at a time. Our panelists shared insights, experience and action items on finance and operations, marketing and leadership. With that being said, we encourage you to do one thing or make one change that will help you get one step closer to building your business and perhaps building your legacy.
As always, stay tuned …
