I believe that what you fill your head with is what shows up in your life.  If you think you can, you can.  If you think you can’t, you can’t.  A pretty simple philosophy to live by and it’s served me well.

Quite a few years ago I took that a step further by developing a set of affirmations to help me achieve some of the goals I had set for myself.  My affirmations are always stated in the present tense (whether those things are part of my life now or not) and are always in positive language.  For example “I love to exercise daily” … okay, I have to admit I still need to keep repeating that one!  But I believe in the power of positive self talk and my affirmations are the tool I use to keep raising the bar for myself.

A couple years ago, I amped my affirmations up by adding visualization exercises.  I can’t say that I’ve done a vision board, but I love to journal, so I would write and write and write.  I would write very specific details about the things I wanted to achieve or be.  I journalled about spending my 50th birthday in Paris and sure enough, I was in Paris on my 50th birthday.

Another true story:

As you may know, I have spent quite a bit of time researching, rebranding and planning our expansion.  Recently my Ipad broke and I had to go “old school” to a meeting – that means paper for note taking. I arrived at my meeting and opened the journal.  The first pages were dated June 2011, nearly two years ago.  I had journalled for about six solid pages of what my new “hub”, “zone” (I didn’t even have a category, never mind a name for the business) would look like – white boards, bright colors, a phone booth, flat screen TVs, music, CNN scrolling, events, happy people talked, great energy, a community board and so much more.

I was delighted and a little shocked to realize that about half of all the details in those six pages, from nearly two years ago, are now features of the C3Workplace Sparta location.

Pretty powerful stuff!

So what do I visualize next … 5 locations, transformed communities, growing businesses … stay tuned :-)
